Japanism & Western Artists:Read the Crossing Cultures essay LINK TO ESSAY—> https://online.butlercc.edu/courses/1500656/files/78962827/download?wrap=1
Imagine that James Whistler and Mary Cassatt are members of a panel discussion on the influence of Japanese prints on their works. Although the essay will help you, it is crucial that you do some research on the two artists, their works, and characteristics of Japanese prints that were available at that time. Wikipedia is a fine launching spot for this project.
Compose a post that is a question that you would like to ask one of the two artists regarding their work. The question should not be a simple fact request, but one that indicates some understanding of the issues raised in the essay AND it should be answerable within a reasonable level. INCLUDE that name of the artist that you are addressing.
IMPORTANT: Write the question as if you are directly addressing the artist:
Here is an example:
” Mr. Whistler, since the lawsuit, what is your relationship with John Ruskin?”
M03 Discussion: Freedom to steal:More than ever, artists around the world are exposed to global culture through media, technology, tourism and foreign trade. Artists will continue to learn, adapt, remodel, transform, ‘steal’ and devise a multitude of other uses for ideas from other cultures and artists, living and dead. In the academic world, and indeed much of the rest of the world, it is not OK to use another’s work without permission or acknowledgement.
How is this artistic freedom different
