Each student will interview an epidemiologist. While an in-person interview is best, the student may conduct the interview by phone, Google Meet, Skype, or Zoom. The purpose of this application project is to learn about and become better acquainted with the roles and responsibilities these health professionals have. After the interview, students will prepare a report of the interview in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which should include an exhaustive discussion of the responses given by the epidemiologist. The PowerPoint presentation must be 10-12 slides, including a title and reference slide. Make sure to follow APA formatting when citing sources.
In addition to the interview summary, please respond to the following questions:
• Compare and contrast the role of an epidemiologist and a biostatistician • State how the clinical and epidemiologic approaches differ. Elaborate on how clinicians (i.e., physicians, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, etc.) and epidemiologists differ in assessing the importance of risks.
Sample questions to use in the interview: 1. In your opinion, what have been epidemiology’s most important contributions? 2. How did you become interested in epidemiology? 3. What is your educational background? What career path led you to your current position? 4. What do you like most about your job? (What makes you feel passionate or excited about what you do?) Do you have an average workday? [For example: how many hours? Where do you work (office/lab/field)?] 5. What advice would you offer a young person interested in becoming an Epidemiologist and trying to decide on an educational pathway?
