The History of Ethnic Studies

It began with student-protests in the 1960s on college campuses in the San Francisco area.
1968 marks the longest student-run strike in US history which was led by the Black Student Union and the Third World Liberation Front (TWLF) in SF State University.
TWLF was a coalition of different organizations that came together for the purposes of changing the curriculum.
Students did challenged the racism in schools particularly in higher education.
This resulted in massive changes in the curriculum at SF State University and UC Berkley.
Now, ethnic studies is required at the California State University System and the K-12 curriculum too.
