Throughout our course, I have tried to convey the tangled nature of scientific discourse. On the one hand, we should not trust science blindly but neither should we ignore those who have expertise in a particular subject. Either extreme can result in the devastation of indigenous communities, allow pandemics to run rampant, and so on. I have also organized our class around this concept of eco-socialism, a methodology and set of ideas outside the academic mainstream, but nonetheless a compelling vision for how to deal with climate change.
ASSIGNMENT PROMPT:
The final project of the semester culminates in a multimodal presentation that you will present to your peers on this discussion board in order to better develop your skills in communicating academic information to popular audiences. This multimodal presentation can be on any topic of your choice as long as it relates to the things we’ve been discussing in class. The format of the presentation is also up to you and could be a PowerPoint presentation, video essay, podcast episode, Instagram slide deck, etc.
** I CHOSE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION AND THE RESEARCH QUESTION I CHOSE IS: What role do media and education play in bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and public perception of climate change? **
For this project, I expect a multimodal presentation that effectively communicates academic information to a popular audience. Regardless of the amount of effort present in the multimodal composition, you must also a written script that should be at least 2,000 words and needs to include research from at least 3 scholarly sources.
** I’VE ATTACHED PDFS OF SCHOLARLY SOURCES YOU MUST USE ANY 3 OR MORE FROM THE ONES THAT I ATTACHED THAT YOU BELIEVE ARE THE BEST FOR OUR TOPIC **
once again the research question I chose is: What role do media and education play in bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and public perception of climate change?
